ABOUT THE CLUB

Harwell Village FC was formed in 1886 and is one of the oldest clubs in the area. They joined the North Berks Football League in 1909 winning its first title 1913/14.
They have won all the local trophies during this time although it took them until 1970 to win the North Berks Cup. It was alleged that a gypsy put a curse in the club not to win this trophy, perhaps that was the year she died. They have also won the Reading Senior Cup and twice been finalists in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Final.
Many villagers have been prominent in its history and they include Tubby Leach, Bill Connolly, Ted Ireson and Derek Moore in the 50's and 60,s ,Dennis Wilkes, Tony King, Ray Hinchliffe and Dick Pateman during the 70,s and 80,s although one man who remains a legend during all this time is Fred Luker and there is a plaque on the exterior of the pavilion to honour his commitment to the club.
